Genealogy and Family History.
The records of the various churches are held by the West Yorkshire Archive Service in Wakefield, but can be accessed online. http://www.archives.wyjs.org.uk/archives-ancestry.asp
Only the most recent records are kept at church, though Smeaton Church has no records due to the theft of its safe which had them in it.
Please remember to consult the Pontefract and District Historical Society who produce booklets of grave inscriptions, and baptism registers for the various churches. http://www.pontefractfhs.org.uk/publications.htm
If you would like to visit the churches and look inside please try to give some notice, so that the vicar can arrange in advance for someone to be available to so this. Please phone or email a couple of weeks in advance. Rev Adrian Judd 01977 704744.
The vicar has had very positive experiences of the online census, and of the various genealogical websites.
